BOOKS, endorsed by MEKUTI

Mekuti advocates gentle behaviour and calming techniques that help people interact with their dogs towards helping them enjoy happier and more rewarding experiences together. As with all the products found on our website, we only stock books that we use and refer to in our own training.

Here you will find books which will help you understand and be with your companion animal in a truly mutually beneficial and rewarding way. We do this by observing and really looking at dog's behaviour and also focussing upon nutrition.

Most of all, though, we believe training should not be hard work so much as fun, for everybody!

£14.75

"Definitive, enlightening, a real eye opener ... I never knew!"

"This book has helped the relationship with my dog so positively by helping me to anticipate potential stressful situations and understand better how he might be feeling."

"The information has helped me to be much kinder and more gentle in my approach. A brilliant read."

Reading this excellent book will help you interact with your dog more fully by learning to recognise signals in dog behaviour and dog body language that dogs use to communicate with one another.

Norwegian dog trainer and behaviourist Turig Rugaas has made it her life work to study canine social interaction and has coined the phrase "calming signals" to describe the social skills that dogs use to avoid conflict, invite play and communicate a wide range of information to other dogs – and also humans.

Every dog needs his human to read this book!

  • Learn to identify situations that are stressful to your dog so that you can resolve or avoid them.
  • Rehabilitate a dog that has lost her ability to read or give calming signals.
  • Become a keen observer of canine behaviour at home, in the community, and among dogs to get better behaviour and build a solid relationship.

Fully and clearly illustrated throughout, this book is easy to read and learn from and may contain a few surprises as to the true meaning of some dog behaviour and mannerisms.

The Truth About Wolves & Dogs

£16.99

A comprehensive 'myth-buster' of the dominance dog training theory and why we shouldn't blame the wolf.

This highly original and unique book encourages the reader to challenge old traditions and misconceptionss about their canine companion, and question the advice given by out-of-touch and out-of-date dog trainers.

This enlightening book will help owners throw out old ideas that can actually damage their relationship with their faithful friend, and allow them to begin working with their dog in an atmosphere of trust, love and mutual respect.

Beautifully illustrated throughout and complemented by superb photography of animals in their natural state which will take the reader on a journey of discovery.

The author, Toni Shelbourne, is a successful TTouch Companion Animal Practitioner. This book is a result of her ground-breaking work with a pack of socialised wolves for ten years developing a unique insight into their behaviour.

[Extract]
"Have you ever worked with a dog trainer and felt uncomfortable about the information given? Did you witness something happen to your dog at the hands of the 'pr'ofessional' which made you squirm? Have you been presented with a long list of dos and donts which, you are told, you must follow to the letter because if you don't, your dog will become the alpha in your family? Have you been excluded from training class, told your dog is untrainable, and made to feel inadequate or a bad owner? Worst of all, did you feel like you were breaking trust with your faithful companion by following these 'rules'?

"Maybe, at this point you simply decided not to carry on with the dog trainer's instructions because they just did not sit right with you? And maybe you thought to yourself, "That won't work with my dog," only to be overruled by the trainer?

"Well, you're not the first ... and you won't be the last!

"But ... where does that leave us as dog owners? I'll tell you: mutual understanding and respect."

More than just incredibly interesting, your dog will actually thank you for reading this book!

Author: Toni Shelbourne - 112 pages, Full Colour - Hubble & Hattie
